Why Word docs?

Good question. Maybe the answer is because it’s the first software I worked with almost 30 years ago, producing reports, manuscripts and business correspondence exclusively in Word for nearly five years. Or because several years of graphic design study compel me to put design principles to use. Or it could be that during my time on the e-pro team at one of the hottest design firms in Seattle in the 90s, my supervisor came straight to me when she received Word template requests. But it’s probably because people need to use Word docs every day, and they need them right, and there aren’t a whole lot of folks who can make that happen, so they keep calling.

Whatever the reason, I love solving the puzzle of how to recreate a beautifully designed piece in Word, taking into account all of the DTP issues and creating something that a receptionist I’ve never met, halfway around the world, can open and use with ease and efficiency. And most of all, I love handing a document back to a client and hearing “You did this in Word? How?!” “I wasted 10 hours last week trying to get that done!” “You saved me from a huge headache.”
